After years of dragging my feet, it finally came time to purchase a house in NJ in June 2024. Did I want to? No, but my landlord decided to sell the house I was renting and I was left with the option of overpaying for rent or overpay to buy. I decided to molester myself and buy. Of course, unless you buy in a new development, there are but two types of sellers in this market: the old or the dead. That means most home purchases these days require a significant amount of upgrades/renovations/repairs. I had literally zero time between the purchase closing and needing to evacuate the rental home, but I needed A LOT of work done for the purchased home before moving my stuff in. So yeah, I thought about hiring specific companies to do specific jobs--like floor guys to do the wood floors, then paint guys to do paint, and roof guys to do roof. But then, the prospect of me needing to figure all this out became daunting. Not to mention how would I know if a job was done right or not?
So it was to my true delight to have come across G&D Custom Homes, with Patrick and Sofia who were able to take care of every job and detail that I needed done, both big and small--and well within the tight timeframe that I required. New hardwood floors? Check. New handrails and bannisters with custom wrought iron balusters? Got them. Custom accent walls and sliding barn doors? Say less. Fix toilets with uncontrollable urge to keep flushing? Done. Hang a fresh overhead light fixture? No problem. Hardwiring Ring cameras around the outside of house? Easy for them but hard for me. Replace old gutters to resolve water issues? Give them 2 days.
Not only does Patrick possess a keen sense and ability to diagnose and fix various house problems, but he's also been able to suggest tasteful upgrades that have undoubted enhanced our home (and hopefully, its value). I already have a line of projects coming up for G&D, including renovating the drab basement and laundry room.
And before you think, am I overpaying for G&D to handle all these varied jobs? Think more in terms of who will garner a better price--you, the one off customer, or G&D, who has worked with their select group of craftsmen over a number of years? I've also always been wary of contractors who seek full payment after performing just 90% of the work (somehow, there were always "backordered" items that they'll promise to come back to install, but you know they never will). This does not occur with G&D, who walked me through the completion of projects and sought full payment only after I was fully satisfied. It has been clear through my experience that they take pride in their work, reputation and craftsmanship.

From chaotic and careless to precision and excellence: A Five-Star Experience with Patrick and Sofia
We were in a really tough spot after our previous contractor unexpectedly ghosted us midway through our kitchen renovation. But then enter Patrick and Sofia! We were so nervous trying to find someone to come in and finish the mess we were left with, but from the moment Sofia and Patrick stepped in, their professionalism and dedication were evident, and everything changed for the better. And we can honestly say this is a “things happen for a reason” scenario.
With a 5-year-old and an 8-month-old in the house during summer vacation, we needed a contractor who understood our family's needs. All of their subcontractors were amazing as well!! The electrician, tile guys, woodworker, sheet rock worker, and painters all exuded the same sense of respect, craftsmanship and commitment to excellence; which is truly the brand of G & D Custom Homes. They were all a pleasure to have in our home.
Patrick and Sofia's kindness and respect towards us as clients made a world of difference during what was a truly stressful time. They managed to alleviate so much stress and frustration we had been experiencing.
